The 2014-15 edition of “The Promethean,” the County College of Morris (CCM) student literary magazine, was presented with a gold award in the 2015 American Graphic Design Awards in the Publications category.
This is the 11th consecutive year the publication has been so honored, ac cording to a press release from the school, which said that the awards are sponsored by Graphic Design USA, a monthly trade publication for graphic designers that has sponsored national design competitions for 50 years.
More than 10,000 submissions were received in this year’s contest, and only 15 percent of those were selected for recognition, the release said.
The 2014-2015 student staff was made up of graphic design students Paula Bevacqua, of Cedar Knolls; Perry Capalakos, of West Caldwell; Kylie Eckert, of Succasunna; Bobbi-Lynn Herda, of Dover; and Wassana Techadilok, of Long Valley.
MORRIS PLAINS
The Morris Plains Community Band rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Morris Plains Borough School Band Room. All wind and percussion musicians are welcome.
The music is easy (middle school level) and there is no cost or commitment, according to a press release from the band, which said they traditional American band music – patriotic songs, marches, show tunes, holiday music, etc.

Opera at Florham will present its next musicale on Nov. 22, at 3 p.m. at Fairleigh Dickinson University featuring a variety of famous opera arias and Broadway songs.
The Musicale will feature soprano, Amber Daniel, who recently made her debut role as Cio-Cio San in Madama Butterfly at Maestro Lorin Maazel’s 2014 Castleton Festival; André Courville, base baritone, portrayed Mephistopheles in Faust at the Academy of Vocal Arts Philadelphia, where he is a resident artist; Alasdair Kent, tenor, first prize winner of OAF’s 2015 Violetta DuPont Vocal Competition.
People are encouraged to bring children to Opera at Florham events. There is no charge for children under 12 years old when accompanied by an adult.
Tickets are $35 for regular admission, $30 for seniors, and $10 for students. Special rates are available for Groups of 10 or more at $25 per ticket. The Landscaping and Horticultural Technology (LHT) program at County College of Morris (CCM) will be holding its annual Holiday Poinsettia Sale starting at the end of November.
Deep red, pink, white and assorted variegated forms of poinsettia, both large and small, will be available. The sale takes place Nov. 30, through Dec. 2, from noon to 5 p.m. in the LHT greenhouses, located near Parking Lot 1, on CCM’s Randolph campus, 214 Center Grove Road.
More than 500 plants will be available ranging in price from $5 to $30. Students in the Plant Science and Plant Pest Management classes have worked with faculty and staff to produce the crop. Proceeds from the plant sale benefit the educational activities of the CCM Landscape Club.

Stanley Congregational Church will host “Stanley ACTS: Hunger” on Saturday and Sunday.
The event is taking place within National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week to promote education, action and awareness about hunger and homelessness in the community and nation, according to a press release from the church.
Activities will include young poeple setting up a “tent city” on the premises to demonstrate the experience of being homeless in Morris County; church members will make bag lunches for the non-profit Bridges, prepare backpacks for homeless families, and put together non-perishable food bags.
There will also be educational activities and a food drive throughout the weekend.
Food donations will be sent to the Interfaith Food Pantry of New Jersey and personal hygiene products to Family Promise. Donations of non-perishable foods and personal hygiene products can be dropped off at Stanley starting at 3:30 p.m. Saturday through Sunday 4 p.m.

The living re-creation of the birth of Jesus will include a humble stable, a rustic manger, a brilliant star and live animals, actors and music. The event is free to the public. Refreshments will be offered following the presentations and all children that attend will receive a free gift. Complimentary Bibles will be available upon request and Christmas devotional books will be given to adults.

Last night, the popstar launched her new range of underwear and sleepwear, called The Intimate Britney Spears, at New York Fashion Week inside the very refined surrounds of the New York Public Library (cue lots of sexy librarian references).
And can we just take a moment to say how fab she looked?

The salon presentation was introduced by a poetic voiceover by the ‘hit me baby’ lady herself with lines like: ‘What I wear when the sky is silky black. And tomorrow is a promise, waiting to be kept. Intimate Britney Spears Collection.’ Err, right.
So far, so pretentious, but don’t let the marketing guff fool you – this is a really pretty collection that has surprised many. As one FROW-er put it last night: ‘Wow, a lot of the stuff actually seems wearable.’

There comes a time in all our lives when all of a sudden everyone we know is getting married. It will usually occur at any point in your 20s or 30s, and it can catch you completely and utterly off guard. One moment, you’re enjoying marathoning Orange is the New Black with your partner, pleased that Netflix is such a wonderful bonding activity. And the next, you’re scrolling through your Facebook feed, acutely aware that there is a new wedding engagement or announcement almost daily. For me, it’s happening now.
I know summer is supposedly the peak of wedding seasons. People crave the sunny days and blooming flowers and sometimes even the scorching humidity (why?!). But it’s now, in autumn, that I’ve noticed a particular increase in wedding invitations. Seriously, I’ve been invited to all-white-weddings, fairytale-themed weddings and a super formal (like “you have to wear a ball gown” formal) NYC events. And with that departs another piece of my child self. It’s officially time to be a grown-up.
That said, I’m pretty glad this is happening now — as in autumn — because fall fashion is just so splendid. And when it comes to shopping plus-size fall dresses, there is no shortage of occasion-specific options. So whether you’ve been invited to a Hawaiian-themed or semi-formal nuptial affair, or an all-out-glam-fest, there’s a beautiful dress to be worn.

The woman's breast sloped and sagged into a shape resembling a popped balloon. The deflated boobs looked nothing like my small, perky breasts.
Three years later, that kind of woman is me. Almost A's (for 24 years) to brimming D's (each time I breastfed) to slumping B's (now). My breasts no longer fill out the jumbo nursing bras I wore through two babies, but the lacy A-cup bras I recently excavated from the back of the drawer cut painful red patterns into my back. Maternity panties fall off my newly flattened bottom, but my ruffled thongs seem garishly out of style.

So, two years and ten months after the birth of my first daughter, I finally summoned the courage to walk into Victoria's Secret again. Hours later, I returned home sheepishly clutching a pink striped bag filled with panties that — if nothing else — at least fit properly.
My husband's reaction was so good that I went back the next day.
"I'll take the kids," he said. "You go."
When I was pregnant with my first daughter, I felt sexy enough to wear dipping necklines on dinner dates and mini bikinis at the neighborhood pool. But then my body started changing, subtly but surely—my belly became a cozy home for a precious person; my arms became a cradle, my breasts a warm restaurant.

When I dreamed of having a baby, I thought it would take time to work off the weight I gained. Instead, I lost the extra 40 pounds in a few months.
But my body changed in other ways: my hips widened, my breasts ballooned, fine lines marbled the pouch of loose skin on my lower abdomen. None of my clothes fit right.
Before I had time to come to grips with my new body, I was pregnant again. For almost four years, I wore an outfit that my husband affectionately dubbed my mommy uniform: comfortable jeans or cargos and a T-shirt one size too loose. The getup worked because it hid my flaws — and I never had to think about what to put on in the morning.
Around my younger girl's first birthday, I weaned her from breastfeeding, thinking it was time to reclaim my body for me and my husband.
I filled garbage bags with clothes that didn't fit, discarded my pregnancy underwear and ordered some key pieces online — a few good pairs of hip-hugging jeans, the kind I have to hop a bit to get into, flirty skirts and some tank tops to replace my standard T's. I put on some matching jewelry and dug out a coral-colored alternative to my typical tube of Chapstick.
When I mentioned that I was writing an article about learning to accept my body, my husband seemed embarrassed to admit he had noticed my recent wardrobe improvements.
"I notice your body more and more lately," he said. "I look at you in what you've been wearing and see the girl I met in college—your breasts are smaller, your hips are a little thinner. It's the body I fell in love with."
Impressed by his sweetness, I wondered what he thought of the all the forms my body had taken over the course of two pregnancies. His response wasn't especially profound: "Well, you had big boobs and I thought, 'Whoa! Big boobs! I haven't seen those in forever.'"
Today, the bathroom mirror no longer reflects the boyish figure it took me two decades to make peace with. Instead, it shows a mother's body — either worked thin and tired from chasing children or bursting round and firm from growing them.

For almost four years, I wore an outfit that my husband affectionately dubbed my mommy uniform: comfortable jeans or cargos and a T-shirt one size too loose. The getup worked because it hid my flaws — and I never had to think about what to put on in the morning.
Around my younger girl's first birthday, I weaned her from breastfeeding, thinking it was time to reclaim my body for me and my husband.
I filled garbage bags with clothes that didn't fit, discarded my pregnancy underwear and ordered some key pieces online — a few good pairs of hip-hugging jeans, the kind I have to hop a bit to get into, flirty skirts and some tank tops to replace my standard T's. I put on some matching jewelry and dug out a coral-colored alternative to my typical tube of Chapstick.
When I mentioned that I was writing an article about learning to accept my body, my husband seemed embarrassed to admit he had noticed my recent wardrobe improvements.
"I notice your body more and more lately," he said. "I look at you in what you've been wearing and see the girl I met in college—your breasts are smaller, your hips are a little thinner. It's the body I fell in love with."
Impressed by his sweetness, I wondered what he thought of the all the forms my body had taken over the course of two pregnancies. His response wasn't especially profound: "Well, you had big boobs and I thought, 'Whoa! Big boobs! I haven't seen those in forever.'"
Today, the bathroom mirror no longer reflects the boyish figure it took me two decades to make peace with. Instead, it shows a mother's body — either worked thin and tired from chasing children or bursting round and firm from growing them.
But it's mine. You will not find me turning tonight's pot roast in lingerie, but you will find me at the local boutique. I'm the girl with the ponytail handing Goldfish to cherubic toddlers in a double stroller as I rifle through racks of stylish jeans and funky dresses that are just my size.
